Title: Alarm
Post by mattb100 on Mar 18th, 2004, 1:02pm
I have only had my scorpio for 2 weeks, getting to grips with the few prob's I have (programmed the remote, cruise control now working)
I am not sure if the car has a alarm. if it has I can't set the thing off. it's a 1996 2.3 ultima, manual.
Would be greatful if any one has any ideas

Get inside, lock the doors, double lock and then wait for a minute for the alrm to intialise then turn the key in the ignition.

You should hear a repeatative alarm like a car horn comming from behind the wipers I think.

Or

If the car does not have global closing - put the drivers side window down, lock the car, wait two minutes then pop open the bonnet.

Anyone else have any suggestions (this could be interesting!  ;D)

Not sure if this will work on the scorpio's but it does on Escort's and Mondeo's, with the car unlocked quickly open and close the driver's door several times (about half a dozen i think) this should set the alarm off to turn off alarm use key in lock to lock or use the remote this will turn the alarm off. This process is normally used to check if the door /boot or bonnet plunges are working properly, i've seen Ford main dealer do it and it's in the owners manual for the Escort.

hope this helps

The way to test the alarm is to lift the bonnet and press the alarm switch(Black button on the left) several times in quick succession.... then open each door in turn and this will verify that the sensors etc are working.......Alarm will sound.....

The little RED led in the centre of the dash board is the alarm LED and should when the alarm is set flash.. It should also illuminate when you first start the car if it flashes on and off then note the sequence as this is a code for alarm FAULTS see this page which shuld explain it all

Mattb100,

Did you mean the red LED in the middle of the dash or the purple sensor at the right hand end? If so the purple thing is the sunlight sensor for the climate control-(reduces the heat when the sun is shining through the glass), so no, it wont flash or light up.
