Title: 24v Cossie Oil Filter differences
Post by TonyS on Mar 20th, 2004, 12:52pm
Ordering a new oil filter at a ford parts counter I was offered a much smaller (less tall) filter initially for

Scorpio 95 2.9 Cosworth 24v.

Both me and a parts fitter agreed the filter was too small so took instead the filter for

Scorpio 95 2.9 24v

which matchs what I'm used to from my old Mk4 12v and 24v Mk3.

Checking under the bonnet it appears the car is fitted with the smaller filter (pattern part from a factors by the look of it).

So which is right? There appears to be enough space for the larger (taller) filter, but the cats have moved closer to the engine so is the revised filter designed to avoid heat?

My filter was also shorter than the original, I was told this was nothing to worry about. Double checking the part numbers it was listed for my scorp. Fitted and no problems 9k later.

The correct filter is Motorcraft EFL 298.
Providing your filter fits and is not smaller than the EFL 298, then i wouldn't worry.
