Me again ::)!

Found the stalling problem ... both the cooling fan are inoperative and when the temperature rises the fan switch on causes a high load on the alternator and resultant stall. Removing the coolant sensor wire produces the same result.

Neither fuses have blown so it cannot be a dead short .. any ideas on the likely causes?

hi there

i take it you've tried spinning them by hand (engine off!). not siezed? what about when the cc/air con is on? the fans should work in slow mode while the compressor is engaged. have you checked it's not the compressor? if that was siezed, then that would put a big load on the engine. you say you removed the sensor wires. was it from the grey plug? with this removed, the fans should running in high speed mode. you can check this with just the ignition on.

can't think of anything else. let us know how you get on.

A bit more,

Main fan works ok (tested via relay in control box behind offside headlamp). I'm guessing it the temperature sensor - seems to be two one with one wire the other with two. Disconnecting either of these with the ignition on results in nothing.

The PCM is reporting the correct ECT value (100oC) and I'm guessing this is derived from the same sensor as the dash temperature gauge.

The green box has three relays in it .. two small (half speed?) and one large (when activated main fan kicks in). What drives these relays?
