Title: Toe-In ?
Post by geraghtyg on Apr 14th, 2004, 2:55pm

Got a '98 Scorpio recently and I just noticed that the back wheels are not straight - ie: They look a bit like this / \. Obviously not that bad. The passenger side seems to be a little worse. What causes this? How do I fix it? Is it something to do with tracking or is something worn out and needing replacing?

Thanks in Advance

There should not be any 'toe in' on the rear wheels it sounds like something is worn ...... in which case check with the wheels off the gtround for excess play in any of the suspension arms etc... ...............or has the car had a crash at anytime that you know about... the only other thing it could be is that the car is twisted slightly.... in which case it needs to be checked on a special jig....... but more likely suspension wear.....have the yres got uneven wear on them... the other way to check is to drive down a straight peice of road and get someone to follow and look at how the car 'sits' on the road and possibly let the steering wheel loosen in your grip.. but be careful with that one.. driving with 'NO HANDS' can cause problems....does it pull one way or the other...

I'll check for any pull on the way home from work tonight - Haven't noticed any since I got the car though. Car is new and from a dealer with new tyres all round so no uneven wear yet but by looking at the rear passenger tyre, I reckon it would wear unevenly.
