Title: 2.3 Cracked inlet manifold
Post by sg_frost on Apr 17th, 2004, 3:02pm
:( My inlet manifold is cracked above the thermostat, spraying a jet of water out when i rev it.  So i need a inlet manifold.  I changed the temp sensor last year and the brass ferule came out of the plastic housing, this was stuck back in with araldite.  Do these plastic manifold go brittle with age, or has anyone else had similar problems?  It's only a '98 car, but it has got 116 thousand miles on it!!!

hi there

copied from the mailing list.

Chap told me he was breaking a scorpio-moderate front/rear damage so engine
may be ok-I 'think' its a 2.3 auto.

Call LUKE on 07810651184.
Cardiff area.

also from eddie

Inlet MANIFOLD has been reassembled WITH new bolt and runs well AND the leak
seems to have gone! Annoyingly ford dealer refuse to take back manifold
gasket I bought in anticipation, still sealed in bag. Rotters!

Is the inlet manifold on the 2.0 litre engine the same as a 2.3?  There are lots of the 2 litres around.

manifold is peculiar to the 2.3 about 200.00 quid complete with relevant gaskets

Have you positively eyeballed the crack? If not then take a good close look and see if there is a bolt missing below the thermostat housing.

Not a bolt loose.  Crack about 1 inch long running from thermostat area bacwards, right on top.  Reved it and two jets of water washed my face!!!!!!!!!!!!

id try repairing it with chemical metal
i used that stuff to fix a really bad corroded thermostat housing on a old sherpa engine that had been sat around as a non runner and the part isnt available
it worked a treat and is still ok 2 yrs later

I think matt is refering to 'JB WELD' its good stuff if used properly.

Use fairly coarse emery paper to clean and provide a key surface, then clean the area with something like brake or carb cleaner before application.GIVE IT PLENTY OF TIME TO SET>
