Title: Can a duff battery cause this Post by senica34 on Apr 19th, 2004, 6:04pm Hi A few days ago I posted a problem re my 2 LT 16v auto estate. re the O/D ligt coming on and the loss of my speedo. I had replies re the speed sensor. Well the car carried on being eratic with the speedo etc some times worked then wouldnt. Then a couple of days ago the car became harder to start and the speedo and rev counter needles started to swing over. Then yesterday the battery wouldnt even turn the car over. Today I put a new battery on and the car starts fine but now the speedo works and the car runs fine. I have only done a few miles in the car. My question is can a duff battery affect the speedo etc or should I still consider changing the speed sensor. Thanks Alan |

Title: Re: Can a duff battery cause this Post by JohnJ on Apr 19th, 2004, 6:59pm Your initial problem sounded to me like a problem speed sensor because you said that the speedo would fall while driving....the 'swinging needle sindrom is common with battery failure as the dash clocks reset because of the low voltage.....I dont believe that is going to cure your Speed Sensor problem but give it a few days and see the outcome. Title: Re: Can a duff battery cause this Post by Eric_R on Apr 19th, 2004, 7:33pm Alan, It's possible that while the battery was failing the system voltage dropped too low to sustain the instrument module. The system generally needs 11 volts and below that modules start to reset themselves. Although it sounded like the VSS sensor initially, if it works now and continues to work there is no need for you to mess with it ;) |

Title: Re: Can a duff battery cause this Post by Paul B on Apr 19th, 2004, 8:03pm Another question about these swinging needles... mine wouldn't start under its own steam (again) this morning. It needed a jump start. However, when it started, the needles didn't swing and the modules didn't reset. How come? They usually do. Paul |
