Title: erratic  brakes
Post by lugaburuga on Apr 21st, 2004, 11:26pm
Hi everybody

I have just acquired a 1987 'E' reg granada scorpio and am very pleased with it but have a couple of problems.  The first is the brakes.  The power assistance sometimes operates and sometimes it does not.  When it doesn't very heavy pressure is needed on the brake pedal to stop.  When it does, the brakes are great.  Does anybody know of possible reasons why the brakes are like this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Nigel

You would need a large leg muscle if the servo isnt working.Try bleeding all the brakes first posibility of air/water in the system.
Check the vacuum pipe to servo for leaks.
Also possible the servo seals need renewing.
And most basic of all whats the brake fluid levels like?
Luckily for you there is a HAYNES manual for the granada series, good info in there regarding brakes.

If I dont say this someone will. ;)

This forum is for 1995 (M) scorpio,s onward.
there is a site for granada,s,I cant remember the URL at the moment but if you do a search for 'Ford Granada' I am sure you will find it.

best of luck mate.

Before you go it sounds a wee bit like a loose fan belt.
