Title: Rear wheel bearings
Post by Kenboy on Apr 24th, 2004, 11:03am
Hi all I suspect the rear wheel bearings are on there way out (Slight Droning Noise),the questions are, 1 is there a definate diagose that bearings need replacing and secondly if they are to be replaced would it be ok to use the old Haynes Granada w/shop manual for this procedure.

Many Thanks Kenboy

Hi Kenboy,

the Granada manual is helpful. I’ve just replaced my rear bearings due to a droning noise (increased in pitch with speed). A few things though, do not try removing the hub nuts the Granada way, on the scorp the nuts undo anti-clockwise on both sides. Also have a heavy duty torque wrench at hand as the hub nuts need to be extremely tight. I was surprised at how easy the job was. also while the hub is removed you may want to clean the ABS sensors and the teeth as they were dirty on mine. The new bearings did not cure the droning on mine so I guess its either the diff or the prop shaft bearing :(

Anyway, best of luck mate

Check the bearings by jacking wheel clear of ground, grab the top and bottom of the tyre and try to rock them in and out. Thre should be no movement.
