Title: Anyone fitted door puddle lights?
Post by Dazzer0016 on May 13th, 2004, 4:36pm
i got hold of 4 red door marker lights & also the clear puddle lights. so anyone with any advice on the exact place to cut into bottom of door...and where to splice in or connect to live wires...no indication or blanking space are on bottom of my doors but it does have already fitted red plastic covers on the side of each door but no bulbs /wires to them.
also still waiting for anyone who as fitted a rear spoiler to there boot lid (saloon) does the granada spoiler fit?
before anyone advises me not to carry out the door light mod i,ve plenty of time & convident to drill/cut out & rust proof the holes in the doors

thanks

Dazzer,

let me tell you it is a female dog of a job.

The easiest part is drilling the 32mm holes in the bottom of the doors (two of) and then filing them into one big hole. Big enough for the light.

you then need the wiring. You cannot pick up the wiring from anywhere inside the door, so you need to connect into the door plug and socket in order to carry the wire back inside the car. Once inside the car, connections can be made. In order to access the door plug/socket you need the correct connectors which if you have the late model car, are not the same as an early model car. I got mine from an Escort MK7.

Getting the cables into the boots which you see when you open the door and the actual block itself is a master class in improvisation!!  You need to find 2 spare pins and then the corresponding ones on the socket on the car door pillar. If you need photos, I can send you some, but having done it, I wouldn't recommend it as an easy job anyway

Sounds a nightmare. You got to ask yourself, is it worth it?

Kef,

the plugs do not match up I'm afraid and also if they did, you would need the wring looms from all 4 doors and even then, the plugs/sockets for the window switches etc wouldn't fit!!

Howdie,

it was a bit of a mare of a job, but once I got 1 door done, the rest were quite easy. It is just about having all of the right bits before you start the job. I tested mine first on a dry run but even then, I still have all the door lights coming on at once instead of one at a time when each door opens. I must check t6he wiring diagrams and sort that out!!

If you get stuck for any bits for this job, let me know & I will post to you. Good Luck.
