Title: Kangaroo hop
Post by comhsg on May 13th, 2004, 10:55pm
I have just purchased a 2.0ltr 16v - all has been fine --- but.-- Got home tonight from a 40 mile commute where she ran fine - got in the car and its jumping around like the proverbial - engine doesn't rev and cuts out - then the power comes in as normal  - definite smell of fuel and there is a lot of heat from the rear offside
( presumably the cat?) - seems like fuel starvation but is more likely to be electrical as it all happened so quick - has anyone got any ideas? or had the problem before ?

Thanks - but please see my comments on "News" - whilst the website is great - it would be useful to get a couple of replies before the problem became too great.

Hi

arnt you going to share the problem
that is now resolved, so at a later date
if anyone has that problem we may be
able to help.
we are not a website full of mechanics
we are scorpio owners, and if someone
got a problem we try to help, its obvious
that because you got no replys we just
did not know how to advice you,and no
one who read the post had that prob before

You are right but in truth I probably expected too much and was a little desperate - this site seems so comprehensive I am surprised the problem hasn't raised its head before.
It would seem on review the electrical side of the MAF valve failed and was effectively pumping 5 or 6 times the amount of fuel into the chambers as the pressure readings were extremely high on the fuel injection system. At least four other faults were indicated on the system. All this from just parking up at the end of the day.
Once the fault was identified electronically another unit was sourced and fitted - all the other indicated faults disappeared and the car runs perfectly. In truth if anything goes wrong again its probably best to change the valve on spec as it is easy to do and the units are only about £30 from the breakers (as long as its tested)
I have seen on this site that someone has dealt with this before so its been a salutory introduction all round - with a little more patience I would have used the info posted to resolve the problem
Thanks for the reply
