Title: Rust
Post by Rich on May 15th, 2004, 3:16pm
HI All, Just got the car jacked up at the back to check the rear brake pads which are low but ok. To my dismay with the wheel removed on the inner wheel arch forward from the coil spring is a very nasty area of corrosion. Nearly all of this area is protected by a plastic insert and hence is like it was when it left the factory but the exposed bit of the car body is rusting quite badly. The other side is the same but not to the same degree. strangely there is a small hole in the outer skin of the body, I know not why, which is allowing the ingress of water and I would assume just sits there between the skins of the body slowly rusting it away. Just thought some of you may wish to check it out before getting into the realms of welding repairs.

I have noticed much the same on the sills and along the seems of the chassis rails, typical of a Ford though, they are ok untill they get wet, lol.

My 95 2.5 TD Scorpio has just failed it's MOT for "excessive corrosion", exactly as you describe.
Due to the inexcessible area the corrosion was in, it cost £50 for the welding.
