Can anyone please help with this prob. Car is a 2lt 16 valve Scorpio Estate M reg

After the car has been driven on a journey and parked up I can hear the water in the header tank boiling which then escapes through the over-flow onto the road. The car drives perfectly well. with no over heating problems. I have had the engine checked for gases escaping into the water there were none and the oil is fine no water etc. Thank You

Sounds like you have an airlock in your cooling system to me, Remove the expansion cap when cold and run the engine with the cars heater set to hot until normal temp is reached,keep an eye on the level in the tank and top up as necessary,you will hear air coming out every now and again and it may even force the water out as well, but if you do this you should get rid of the airlock. Continue until you can't hear any more gurgling.
Hope i'm clear with instructions as i've had a few jars,lol.

dont know if this is relevent,after i had my car a few weeks,i was always topping up the water level,then after a run it would drop down to approx an inch or so below the max line,this went on and on,then after mentioning it to the garage i always use,they said it was a "querky" ford thing,sometimes they just find there own level,and no matter how many times you continue to top up,the water will always return to the pre-determined level,dont know if this is true,but i will say it works fine on my car.............

Water boiling in the system is not a good sign.. As stated you may have an airlock but it sounds more like a stuck thermostat to me... do the fans cut in when the engine gets HOT and does the radiator and bottom hose also get hot after running the engine....

From the syptoms you describe I would have said your head gasket had gone but if the garage have checked that then it rules it out.......

Thank you very much for the replies.
This morning I ran the car as Richard suggested I left it running for over an hour no problems there was no air coming out of the system.

Re Craigs comments I have noticed the same it will settle at it own level this well below the Max marker on the tank and then I later get the low water warning on the dash

Snoopy re your comments, as I said I left the engine running for an hour at no time did the fans come on. If I push the A|C button the fans come on, if I turn the heater control to screen the fans come on but not when I just leave the engine running. RE the Rad the bottom is far cooler that the top of the Rad. I did put a new stat in a few months ago and I changed the sender.

Hi

Check the cap on the header it should
have 2 rubber rings round it, 1 of mine
was split and wasnt sealing causing
water to flow out of the overflow pipe
