Title: ReFitting Dizzy
Post by stevo1 on May 20th, 2004, 9:01am
I've had to remove my distributor to do some work on my car which is an Ultima 2.9 V6 12 valve N reg.

what is the best way to put it back so i'm somewhere near firing right. It seems to be with adjustable timing as the securing nut fits thru the dizzy in a large hole which when loose allows the dizzy to be turned from side to side...can anybody help????

Steve..

Stevo,
It's a shame you had to remove the dizzy, because its set by microwave on the production line and it's not likely you'll get the same accuracy again. The instructions are below.

l Set cylinder no. 1 to TDC.
1 Align the notches on the distributor base and the cylinder block.
2 The distributor rotor points towards the notch on the edge of the distributor.
Press the distributor down and engage the pinion.
Crank the engine and bring the distributor into engagement with the oil pump drive assembly.
3 Position of the distributor rotor (cylinder no. 1 in TDC position) with the distributor installed.
4 Secure the distributor with the retaining plate (one bolt).

Once you have it static timed, finish the timing by using a strobe light on the timing mark on the crankpulley. Use a dab of white paint to make this easier.
