Title: Re: rad top hose ballooning Post by Mick Saunders on Sep 11th, 2004, 1:06pm :) Hi Mistermen, If you know a friendly MOT garage, ask them to use their gas sniffer (the one they use to check emissions) If they open the expansion tank cap (When cold of course) they can put the probe over the top of the filler hole. If you have a blown Head gasket it will sense the exhaust fumes in the steam. Also extreem bubbling of the contents Of the expansion tank would suggest the same. Mick |

Title: Re: rad top hose ballooning Post by Snoopy on Sep 13th, 2004, 8:30am You could also have some air left in the system... did you do a full bleed of the system, but it does on first reading your post sound a little more serious.. New thermostats have been known to be faulty....and I presume that you changed the thermostat because of the problem......... Suspect head gasket blowing...but do as the previous posters advise check it for gas.... |

Title: Re: rad top hose ballooning Post by Nodge on Sep 13th, 2004, 9:30am Shouldn't the relief valve in the filler cap come into play before you actually started to inflate a rad hose? I'd suggest a new cap and probably a new hose as well. Still check for a blown head gasket though to find what's casuing the excess pressure. |

Title: Re: rad top hose ballooning Post by Badboytunes on Sep 16th, 2004, 10:05pm Also another thing,,,, did you have the heads skimmed? Sometimes with cast heads ans more so with alloy they may warp a little creating a blown head gasket again. I got caught out once so i always have my heads skimmed as a matter of course. Cheers Nick |
