Title: Drive belt tensioners
Post by burmesepython on Sep 12th, 2004, 10:13pm
Hi,

Just done the belts on my cossie. Only had it a few weeks and this was urgent.

Read this list for the how-to. Thanks, this is just so full of useful info.

Question I have is, do these tensioners ever fail?
The main drive belt tensioner took a huge effort on a breaker bar, but the A/C belt tensioner was so weak I nearly skinned my knuckles as it moved so easy. Might this also expalin why my A/C doesn't work either?

Cheers,
Adam..

That's correct - the AC one is a much lighter spring than the main one.

If the belt was too loose then it would slip and 'squeal' when the AC compressor magnetic clutch engaged.
