Title: NO IGNITION LIGHTS
Post by Biggles on Sep 21st, 2004, 7:10pm
Just developed a problem where I have no ignition lights on position 2 on the key. Position 1 gives me the normal ignition on power for the radio etc.
It did this a couple of days ago but soon resolved itself a few minutes later, but now it seems to want to be permanent. I have tryied a battery disconnect in the hope it will solve the problem, but no joy.
Can anybody shed any light on the cause?

The problem started last week and done it twice on two different occasions. I parked up  and switched ignition off, I then had to restart it, to move the car a little but could not. Could not even get ignition lights up(completely dead). After waiting a minute or so, reinserted ignition key and then ok.
Parked the car up today and on return a few hours later, turned the key and nothing on the ignition, no ignition lights on pos. 2 but ok on pos. 1 for the radio etc.

Could all be down to a faulty ignition switch.. Well worth investigating that... Take the covers off behind the steering wheel and have a look in there.. may well be a vsisble fault.... But I have to ask   does it have a battery cover?    But I would start there first..Changing the ignition switch is easy really ussually on a short harness

Thanks for the reply. Is it possible for the ignition switch to fault intermittently before faulting completely, other than being maybe a loose connection?

Hi everyone,

After receiving an e-mail from Rob Ballard(my saviour), the problem is now hopefully resolved.
Replaced the Ignition lock relay (R21) in the battery fuse box with the same rating one in the same box (R18) to test it and lo and behold everything back up and running.

that should have read R18 (eighteen)

I had the same problem 4 o'clock in the morning at a Gatwick Airport car park after returning home from Tenerife. After stifling my laughter (as you can imagine  ;)), I called the recovery man out and he just replaced a 20 amp fuse and all was well (couldn't see which fuse - it was dark and raining so I ran for cover)
