Title: Boot lid springs
Post by Neil W on Sep 22nd, 2004, 7:38pm
I think I saw another member's description of how to adjust the tension of the boot springs, but can't find it now  :-/. I got my young nephew, who is built like a brick outdoor convenience and has muscles to die for  :P, to try pulling the spring back a notch, so as to stop the boot lid trying to crush my skull in the most modest of winds, but he couldn't.

The problem is you can't get a straight pull back on the little loop on the rear end of the springs.

Has anyone managed to do this adjustment, and if so how was it done?  ::)

It's been bugging me for ages too. I have the opposite problem, it hardly goes up at all some days. (Oo er Missus!)  :P

I think it might just be possible if the Terminator pulls the spring, Robocop pulls the clip out, and finally Commander Data re-locates the clip in the new location.

Cheers,
Wayne (I never want to manually open my boot ever again).  8)

Wayne,

Thanks for the encouragement  ;D. I finally got the aforementioned boc to pull back the springs far enough for me to latch them into the next to last hole in the adjuster bars.

A piece of 6mm rope 1.0 metre long tied in a loop through the wire eye on the spring was pulled backward by the boc  ;) whilst I sat in the boot with a mole wrench fastened to the spring close behind the loop, so I could guide the hook end of the spring out of one hole and through one further back  :P.

The boc said the job was a piece of cake but I daresay he could lift the whole car for me to change a wheel  ;D.

Hmm... must be a regional thing, but the B.O.C would be called a B.S.H  where I come from  ;D

We Northerners try to be polite sometimes - especially when others are watching  :-*!

P.S Big up to the Northern Massif  ;)

Yes it does and so far hasn't fallen on my head. My dear beloved boc would, if asked nicely, do the same for others I'm sure. But it might cost a packet of fags like it did for me  ;D!

Neil W.

If there is a * in fags then I didn't put it there  :-/.
