Title: coolant light
Post by niko111 on Sep 22nd, 2004, 8:43pm
slightly annoying problem with the coolant level light on my 24v. coolant level is fine, never moves or uses water. the light stays off most of the time, but if i go for a bit of a thrash on the motorway, after about 10 mins the light will come on. when i come off the motorway & slow down after 5 mins the light will go out. has anybody any idea what could cause this?

Mine did exactly the same thing for a month or so and then decided to stay on all the time - took it into Ford main dealer who discovered that the floatswitch was basically broken - they wanted £40 to replace it so I now drive with it on all the time - I know there's water in there and the engine never gets anywhere near the red so I left it.

had a feeling it might be the switch. i'll have a look to see if it needs cleaning this weekend.

Had the same problem on my old  '91 scorpio, the float switch was magnetic and had picked up some rubbish which sometimes stopped it closing properly.
