Title: Over Heating
Post by Mr_Chiller on Sep 30th, 2004, 6:12pm
Replaced top hose on rad. Drove car for a few miles and engine overheated, returned home. Have refilled system several times but cannot stop the overheating problem. The top hose is full of pressure rather than water if this makes sense. Therefore when i turn the engine off the water flows out of over flow pipe. What can be causing this build up of pressure in the system to such a high level. Problem started when i replaced the hose.

Sounds to me like you have an airlock in your system unless and i hope not for your sake your head gasket is on its way out,
But if you have no problems before replacing the hose then it is almost definately an air lock, Remove the cap from the expansion tank (when safe to do so), run the engine and put the heater on hot, allow the car to reach normall operating temp and you should see water and hear the air coming out of the system, fill up with water slowly and when no more air is coming out replace the cap, switch of the engine and if you don't hear knocking and gurgling from the cooling system it is done.
Hope this helps.

Richard
