Title: Another steering problem Post by Baz on Sep 30th, 2004, 8:45pm Hi, I noticed whilst out in the new Scorp over the weekend, that when I was trying to reverse into a parking space, the power seemed to completely go out of the steering when the car was at idling speed. I had to put a bit of gas on in order to turn the wheel which can be a little disconcerting when parking between two cars!! Any ideas as my other scorp never has this problem. I was thinking maybe a loose drive belt or something. There are no leaks in the system, not even from the dreaded joint below the bottle and at running speeds, there are no problems. Title: Re: Another steering problem Post by JohnJ on Sep 30th, 2004, 8:54pm Yep you have a loose or worn fan belt or drive belt, sometimes I get that afer a large puddle and you need large arms to turn the wheel, try tightening up the belt or buy a new one. JJ ;D |

Title: Re: Another steering problem Post by Snoopy on Oct 14th, 2004, 7:47pm If you are refering to the speed sensitive power steering that is fitted to the 24 v Cosworth Scorpio then it reduces the amout of power steering effect when travelling a higher speeds as not as much force is required to move the wheels when they are revolving at a reasonable rate.... I would have thought the power steering pump may be at fault they do break sometimes.... |

I think I finally (touch wood!) fixed my Scorp. 15 mins of turning the wheel from lock to lock made some progress but not much. Next day I held the wheel thight to its end postitions several times while rushing the engine so the oil almost boiled! Slightly better again, but guess what: the next day it was perfect and has been for several days! Does this makes sence? Is it soo hard to bleed the system? Thanks for all help! /Fredrik |
