Title: Failed instruments and headlights
Post by mattyboy on Oct 7th, 2004, 8:14pm
Wierd one this.
Yesterday I caned it away from a roundabout, the 'auto box shifted down and the the car surged forward as normal, however the rev counter and speedo went to zero, the abs light and the traction control light came on and the headlights failed. I pulled over and recycled the ignition and all the instruments returned to normal but the headlights still don't work.

Any ideas????!!

Matty,
Check the car battery by having it discharge tested. On periods of high demand if the system voltage drops below 10v then modules all over the car reset.

For the same reason, check the headlights switch. If that has overheated and shorted out it may have forced the system voltage too low. Sometimes the terminals inside the switch can wear and cause overheating, and this may be why the headlights don't work.

But check all the fuses too.
