Check that the cable is connected
 at the throttle control.

andy...
when you press the on button,no light comes on anyway, and i think the cruise will only work above 40 MPH,have you tried doing this, make sure your on a safe bit of road, get the car to say 50MPH,then turn the cruise on and try setting it then,if you have previously had a granada, the system in the new scorpio is certainly different to operate, took me a while to gey used to the change.....................

if this does not work, then as ren has stated, check the cable around the throttle assembly...

My Cruise Control works right  down to 30mph, and before that the light will not illuminate, but there is a Cruise Control light!  it  sounds like the cable is stuck of disconnected at the control motor at the drivers headlight.

Craig check your dash bulb for Cruise Control. its a little Speedo Symbol.

Kind Regards

JJ :)

Had exactly the same symptoms on mine. The cable had slipped off the throttle linkage. I am told that the motor can stick also. Good luck hope you have the same luck I did.

hi john

sorry, just to clear up some confusion,my cruise works and illuminates as it should, what i was trying to explain is that if you just switch the cruise on,no light comes on untill you set the speed, wheras in my previous granada scorpio, the light was on all the time the cruise was on,in the scorpio now,if you just coast with the cruise on,the light goes off, which can be a little confusing, hope that clears it up.....

Craig - mine does exactly the same..

You press the on button and nothing.. You press the '+' button and it works fine and the speed control light appears on the dash.. You press the off button and it switchs off..

Odd..

i think/hope this is completly normal, unlike the granada's as you well know, does take a little "mastering" though, especially if you think it's the same as the latter...

While we're discussing the ins and out of cruise control, have you noticed that you can increment the speed by 1MPH for each click of the + button? It's quite handy if you want to just ease past someone who is cruising slightly slower... 5 clicks up and 5 clicks of '-' down after you've passed.

Yes, I know! Sick ins't it?

YEap that is handy, and it does actualy go 1mph increments very accurate.

Well i have done over 100 miles of motorway cruising just using the cruise control, even to the point of using it to slow the car down when the flow slowed down to about 45 - 50 mph, never touched the brake pedal until i had to leave the motorway at my junction.  Done the same on the return trip, absolutely blissful drive there and back.

Here's to relaxing drives (when i get her back next week that is)
