Title: cosworth gear prob
Post by w_pieper on Oct 9th, 2004, 2:38pm
first: I'm verry sorry for my bad English.
Problem: After starting the car does'nt move forward because the gearbox isn't working. Driving back is possible.
I bought another used gearbox and one week I could drive with some probs, but now all is the same like before.
What could cause the trouble? Could it be the part which makes the necessary pressure for the gear box, the "changer" we call it in German? Or what?
[I hope someone can understand what I want to say..]

Thanks to your hint, so I tried googles translation service and got this:
Problems with automatic transmission in particular in the cold condition.  After starting the engine and insert the 1.  Course the course is not inserted by the mechanism.  Reverse gear functions.  Only once if a course is found, then one can drive with small interruptions.  However if one night is between them, then there are problems again.

Did you try cleaning the MAF?

Hello Wilhelm,

Because you haved same problem in two autoboxes, one idea came in my mind: please check that you have correct oil level in the box.
It´s measured by engine running at idle (850rpm/min).
If you check the oil level without engine running, you have too high reading in dipstick and the real level is far too low.

For some reason the box takes reverse, but not forward when the oil level is low.

You should also check that you have correct dipstick fitted. (anyone knows the right markings on it?)
