Title: Very Fussy Car Alarm
Post by AndyJPA on Oct 13th, 2004, 6:53pm
Hiya

1995 2.0 16v Ultima..I havent owned the car that long so ive just noticed this problem recently,

the key fob dosent work at the moment, i assume its just a new battery req or somthing, so i have been locking the car with the key only, for some strange reason i havent had a problem while the car has been parked down the drive way, yet on the 3 occasions i went shopping and left the car in an open space on a shopping centre car park, the alarm went off (just the horn sounding) about 2 mins after i locked the doors and walked away...when i looked back towards the car on all occasions there was nothing in the vicinity.

all 3 times it was sunny,

any ideas at all

many thanks

Andy

With regards the key fob take it apart and clean it out carefully and clean the contacts with an eraser onthe end of a pencil... handle the batteries with tissue or cloth to prevent the acid from your hands causing problems and replace the batteries with new ones.. reprogram the remote as per the handbook or from this site.

With regards the alrm check the bonnet switch they are notorious on Fords for causing problems you could try disconnecting the bonnet switch and see if that cures the problem....

Just in case your puzzling how, put a thinnish bladed screwdriver into the line that runs around the edge of the remote and twist, the two halves should crack apart.
This will expose one side of the circuit board and the batteries. Memorize the orientation of the batteries and remove them.
Remove the circuit board from its rubber membrane and inspect the switch side. Sometimes this part gets covered in gunge from condensation etc. Use a bit of loo roll and methylated spirits (etc) to clean the board.
You can also clean the inside of the membrane if needed BUT,be careful not to rub the conductive coating of the rear of the buttons!
Replace Membrane/board/batteries /case.
Plip Plip!
