Title: ABS & TC Lights Post by Paul B on Oct 19th, 2004, 8:00pm Evening all. Got a small problem arisen... possibly... but hopefully not. Basically my ABS & TC lights have started coming on tonight. Start up and all is normal. The self test happens and all lights then go off. Then when I begin driving, they light up. I turned the engine off and re-started to see if it would 'fix itself' but the same thing keeps happening. Now... this has only happened this evening and one other unusal thing preceeded this - reversing out of the driveway at my mum's, my steering was pretty much on full lock and I may have been in a bit of a hurry :-[ The wheels seemed as if they were skipping across the surface rather than gripping. What's the verdict guys? Has something possibly become dislodged? Could I have dirty or dodgy sensors? Thanks in advance.... ME :) |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by SaveTheNight on Oct 19th, 2004, 8:55pm you haven't got a low tyre pressure or slow puncture have you Paul ? ..some people don't agree with the theory I know ..but I come across it fairly frequently ... otherwise maybe a sensor clean.. but usually that only bring up abs .. regards ....STN |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by bertie on Oct 19th, 2004, 9:15pm just done this job on Nics motor. his rear sensors were mucky and needed cleaning. Also, we popped the centre cap out of the front struts and airlined the sensors to clean them. Do not try to unbolt them as they are always seized in and will snap. Ford flog them for £90 each...we know cos we had to buy one!!! hope this helps simon |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Paul B on Oct 19th, 2004, 9:48pm STN... Interesting that bit about a slow puncture. I think all pressures are correct, but... I did have a flat on the back last week. Got that repaired though and the lights didn't do the business then. Will check them tomorrow though. Simon... Thanks for the cleaning advice. I will follow that and hope I don't b*gger up any sensors. 90 squid each eh? :o |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by scorpio_man on Oct 19th, 2004, 9:56pm hi paul what type of abs do you have? the later mk 2.0 needs to be reset to clear error codes. the older abs seemed to clear itself by switching off then on again. hth |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Paul B on Oct 19th, 2004, 10:09pm Andrew... how do I tell what type I have? ??? The car has a build date of September 97 - registered Jan 98. Does that help? And would I need to be using the old OBD lead on it? |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Paul B on Oct 20th, 2004, 6:18pm Okayyyyy..... so out I go this morning, expecting the same treatment from the warning lights but instead, what do I get? Nothing. No lights are coming on. It seems to have fixed itself. :-/ I'm not going to argue though. I'm quite happy. But I'll keep an eye on things in case it happens again. Or do you think I should go searching for a reason as to why this happened? |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Dave Boulton on Oct 20th, 2004, 9:35pm Hi Paul, I've had these d**n lights coming on then disappearing. Still haven't got a clue why but they now haven't done it for over six months! I used to think it was related to wet conditions. That theory worked consistently (er, nearly consistently) until about 6 months ago. I've read everything here, on the site and from lurking on the mailing list (I do like a good lurk once in a while ;D). Umpteen tins of WD40 and a lot of jiggling made no difference. I realise this is no help but you are not alone! Cheers, Dave |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Paul B on Oct 20th, 2004, 9:47pm Thanks for that Dave. As you say, its good to know that its not just me having it happen. I hope it doesn't keep doing it though - it'll drive me up the wall >:( As I said, I think I'll leave it alone now and hope it goes away. Carry on lurking! ;) |

Title: Re: ABS & TC Lights Post by Snoopy on Oct 21st, 2004, 7:51am It sounds like a dirty connector and when it got wet in the recent rain it failed... I do on a regular basis clean and check the front connectors and seal them from the elements with silicone grease to prevent this very thing from happening. The rear connectors as nicely hidden under the back seat out of the weather. Worth checking if you get a few minutes. IMHO. |
