Title: Non-starter after radiator renewal Post by burmesepython on Oct 19th, 2004, 9:25pm Hi, Please can you help - my ultima 12v auto is dead..... Got the rad re-cored today. (Plug here for Kempston Radiators - mega helpful, and did a full recore in 2 hrs for £98) Got it all back on with no probs. Started first time no problem, ran it for a few mins checking for leaks - none. Put it in reverse to get out the drive - it stalled. Restarted - but only after 20secs of turning over with full throttle, then finally picked up and revved and idled normally. In reverse - died again. Same problem starting it. This time kept revs up as I went into reverse, ok Got 800 yds down the road all running normally - then phut. Engine died - no stuttering or misfire, just died. Now it won't start at all. Had to get the other half to tow me home - well popular as you can imagine. Wondered if its something as simple as I was careless filling it up, and there is water over electrics somewhere. Also heard of a relay problem that can cause this symptom, somewhere up near the screen on the drivers side. Any help appreciated, spent all day chasing, doing the rad, now I'm still on shanks's pony. Cheers, Adam.. |

Title: Re: Non-starter after radiator renewal Post by john.n on Oct 20th, 2004, 7:23am It could possibly be in learning mode if you disconnected the battery- the car then needs to re-learn and will need to be driven a few miles. Try it somewhere that you dont need to go in reverse. Good luck. john.n ;) |

Check the multi plug connections in the engine bay. On the left hand chassis rail looking from the front of the car. Dont pull them about though, this is a common problem area. I suggest soaking them with WD40 in any case. john.n ;) |

I have a spark, so next thing I suppose is to make sure I got fuel at the injectors - whats the best way to do this? Wondering if the fuel pump has packed up. Is it in the tank on these? Title: Re: Non-starter after radiator renewal Post by john.n on Oct 21st, 2004, 8:44am I think that there is a valve on the engine somewhere near the injectors-looks like a tyre valve,and i beleive -if memory serves that its coloured blue. If you have this you can switch ignition on and press down the central bit, just like letting a tyre down.If you have fuel it will squirt out-be carefull though as its under pressure. john.n :) |

Found the fuse on the EMU blown (battery side fuse box). Nicked the one off my cossie, started first time :) Fixed for 39p Thanks for all the help - it did point me in the right direction.
