Title: Violent Steering Wheel Shudder
Post by gainef on Oct 28th, 2004, 3:11pm
Hi All,

Please help me with this recurring problem........

My sterring wheel shudders violently when breaking from 65mph down to about 30mph. This worried me a great deal. It has now started to wobble slightly when accellerating at low speeds.

I've replaced front discs and pads, changed the steering rack, swapped the back tyres round to the front but nothing has helped.

Any ideas? If you feel you can help feel free to call me on 07796754285 (I'll call you straight back).

FG.

It rather sounds like a suspension problem, if you have it on acceleration as well... Check the front bottom wish bone ball joints and all the associated link rods.... If the bottom ball joint is worn you can get very similar syptms to what you are describing....

I just had the same problem with my car. At the beginning shudder on brakeing and later sudder from 30 to 70 km/h. So a few days ago I decided to change my tires to winter ones and the problem was gone. So my guess is that either one of the tires was warped or the tire ballancing was off.
