Title: Door locks and alarm mysteries. Post by Dave on Oct 30th, 2004, 9:55pm Dear all, Good evening. It's Dave. At long last, I have finally acquired a Scorpio. It took me months. It's a 1996 P 24v Cosworth, tormaline (sp?) green. It's lovely. 54k. However, I have issues. Some lemon has fitted a new alarm to the car. It's on it's own bleeper. I set what I believe to be the new alarm off when sat inside, locked, pressed the stereo (not original sadly) power button and it sounded. It was a wailing siren noise, not a horn. It reset with one click of the new bleeper. No problems yet. However, after disengaging this new alarm I tried to lock and unlock the car with the key. It locks fine, perfect, but doesn't unlock. Then came more problems, after locking it with the key, the factory fitted flashing LED began doing its job.. the ford alarm was armed. Then upon pressing the bleeper for the new alarm (the only way to unlock the doors) the 'horn' alarm sounded. Quite a lot. Can I disable it by putting the key in the unlock position in the driver's door? Failing that, the original fob is still lying about in the glove box. Basically my question is, what are my door locks doing, and how do I disable the factory fitted alarm? :-/ Regards, Dave. PS! I forgot. I am wondering if anyone knows of any good insurers for young Scorp drivers. I'm nineteen. I've found insurance with direct line, that's the best so far but wondering if anyone has any bright ideas, because i'm out of work due to illness : ( money is toight! |

Post by Baz on Oct 30th, 2004, 10:31pm Dave, Let me see if I get this....You are out of work, money is tight and you buy a 24v Cosworth that does 18mpg round town? And I thought I had trouble with my 18 year old who managed to spend 10 grand in 3 months on computer games!!! The colour by the way is Tourmallard green and as for the locks, they might be worn or indeed the key might be worn. Did you get the red key with the car because you could try this as it should be the least used of the keys and you will need it to make any future keys for the car. If the lock is worn, you can buy a lock repair kit from fords for a few quid. Can you lock and unlock via the passenger door? The factory fitted alarm has a seperate horn which is located behind the battery, however I don't know what implications there are with just disconnecting it./ It will shut it off though. Your son sounds a bit mad. Is there even ten grands worth of games, in the world? Thanks for the colour correction, I just had the vague sound of the word in my head. Aye, i've tried both driver and passenger locks, same problem. I suppose it could be premature wearing. I'll try and clean or get that repair kit. I thought, because of the uniformity of the problem, that it might be a character of the new alarms programming... maybe it disables key unlocking. And as for the red key, nope. That's on the list of things to do. I know it'll cost a lot.. and a man with expensive breath in a Ford suit will be involved. But that's okay. At least I know how to disconnect the alarm horn, thanks.. I'm going to have a good play tomorrow and if the worst comes to the worst i'll just disconnect the factory alarm and maybe use the new one. I hate alarms! I hate them! I live near Wilmslow.. you're Warrington, right? I know an AA man from Warrington ::) So we're not a million miles away. It's good to know. I was in Wilmslow yesterday at the tailors on the big roundabout! He makes my suits and I do his electrics!! My father in law lives in Chelford so not a million miles away. I will be in Wilmslow on Monday night, we are swapping a data cabinet over at the office block next to the Ferrari garage, if you are passing, give us a wave!! Baz By the way, I thought everyone in Wilmslow drove a Ferrari, Bentley or 4x4 or are they just the second cars?? |

Plump, tall, a very feature-full face, if you know what I mean.. owns three cars. Shan't say what, for risk of identifying him to someone bad. Good guy though.. he helped us a lot tonight. Gave me a bottle, too. Crumbs, you're a dark horse indeed. The petrol station strides away from your Tailors is where I worked through college. Eek. So you're a sort of computer electric systems type engineer of sorts? Sounds special. And... aye. The pavements are lined with brand new Mercedes and BMW and fleets of Cayennes -- I blame all the primary schools. The town's changed a lot since my family moved here. It's full of scumbags. We used to have a Woolworth's! It's just not fair. I have a serious problem with rabbiting. I promise i'll change. Monday night you say.. i'll see if I see you : ). Wouldn't mind a glimse of the Silver fox in person, too. Nighty night. D |

I've replaced the number 43 fuse and got the cigarette lighters working... unsure about the heated seats. The lights don't illuminate, and the seats didn't respond very much. I'll have to give it a proper road test though. Which I can't do until Wednesday 10th! :'( Yesterday I managed to double-lock myself out of the boot. Which was really annoying because I wanted to hoover it. I had no way of getting in because the key doesn't work to unlock anything.. I got some batteries, cleaned and reprogrammed the original ford fob. Boot opens. Tada. However I now have two fobs (two alarms) and they don't get on so well. I called Ford and they say a hundred squid plus VAT will get me a new red key and black key, both of which plus my current one will all need to be reprogrammed, with the car present, etc etc. £100 doesn't sound too bad. Then what.. what then. Then hopefully the d**n thing will be ready for normal use. Service, inc gearbox and engine oil changes, and an MOT will happen on Tuesday next week. I still don't know about my locks not unlocking with the key though. I suppose if I get the keys made i'll ask Ford about that, too. Right. D |

Post by bertie on Nov 1st, 2004, 10:20pm hiya all...long time since I've been on this forum...hoo hum anyway, it just some happens I've just replaced all the locks on my estate...long story....Ford kit costs £70 thats all the locks and ignition lock, 3 keys.....you fit them all and then take it to Ford, in the car park fit the ignition barrel and they program the car for £70...that's it...sorted as a footnote....all my door locks locked on the keys...but would not open......I had to use the remote....you could take the lock apart and rebuild them but for the hassle involved it's worth chucking a new set in....simple enough to do simon |
