Hello..

I am going to perform a 80k service on my 2.3 in the next couple of weeks.

It has been a pain to get some of the parts..

So far I have only been able to get:

Spark Plugs
Oil
Oil Filter
and fuel filter

I have discovered the 2 HT leads situations which is why I guess most aftermarket parts people dont list them? I can get them from Ford or Unipart - which do I go for?

the Air Filter? surely that can be obtained from a motor factors? Its the same as the old 2.0i.. Halfords dont list it at all.

The two electronic devices that sit on top of no2 and no4 plugs - I take it these things just go on and dont need replacing?

Do I need a new sump plug?

Is there any benifit from flushing the oil out or shall I just go with the fact I know the car has been well serviced and just drop the old oil and replace with new?

And finally I have read the main site and seen the comments about the wiringing loom - mine looks ok should I just leave it?

Hi I would suggest that this time you use flushing oil at least you would have peace of mind that this has been done as for the wiring loom if it aint broke don,t mend it they are quite expensive £120.00 as for the coil packs this are normally very reliable, the air filter can be purchased for about £7.00 from any decent motor factor make sure you get the square one and not the oblong one for some reason motor factors can get these mixed up?.

You may consider to have the strenght of antifreeze  in the cooling system checked out also if there is no record of brake fluid renewal then this would be strongly suggested that you change I myself use platinum spark plugs and although initialy expensive (about £8.00 each) they should last a minimum of 30.000 miles don,t forget to grease all door hinges and any other hinges you may have boot, bonnet etc and finaly spray all electrics that are under the bonnet with wd40 oh bt the way check for brake pad wear and good luck.

Thanks for that.

I have pretty detailed service record - but cant clarify the changing of the brake fluid.

Thanks for the advice.. I am sure I can get a filter, Halfords just being a bit numpty.

The two 'lumpy' things on top of the plugs are the ignition coils.
Should last the life of the car.
Have fun with the oil change,dont forget lots of rags on top of the starter motor to catch the oil from the filter when it comes off!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice one - thats why you guys are great.. I woulnt have known that and oil would have gone all over my start motor!

Ken - thanks - I am a real nightmare for making things right (a  bit pedantic and anal at times).. hehe :D

I am trying to cure a misfire at 2000 revs that I seem to have inherited..

Phil,
The brake fluid should be completely changed every two years to prevent corrosion to the rear brake adjuster inside the calipers.
Re the misfire at 2000 rpm - have you checked the condition of the loom running inside the cam cover? These are prone to insulation breakdown and if this is seen you can either repair or replace the loom - see http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm
If you're sure there's no problem with the FCO loom then it might be the EGR. If the misfire only takes place in part throttle conditions, (not when accelerating or decelerating) then a slight leak on the EGR pipe might be admitting air that leans off the mixture too much and causes a hesitation. This seems to be more prevelant on the 24V engine but it's a possible cause for this on yours. Because this is ironwork there's often no OBD detection.
When we did a scan on your car we didn't detect any problems with the HO2S sensors - but if these flatline for any reason the pre-cat sensor can cause a fuelling problem in mid revs, and also an uneven idle. We should have seen this when we did the scan, but we can always meet up again and have another look.  ;)

I think once I have done the service I will bring it down and you can plug the lap top in again.

The missfire happens (most noticeably in neutral) I blip the accelerator and hold the revs to 2000 rpm.. It is at the point where the revs stablise that i feel the missfire..

I had a look at that loom and it seems ok to me.. maybe I will have a better idea when I take the plugs out.

- that parts link you gave me is superb..he can even get the missing badges and door reflector for me.. Bristol ST couldnt...

Seems a bit smoother - will need to plug in the OBC to make sure all is well.
