Title: misfire on 2.0 16v Post by sprog on Oct 31st, 2004, 8:57pm i have an annoying misfire on my 96 2.0 16v ultima estate.the tickover is erratic, particularly when cold, and it coughs and splutters below about 3000 rpm. if i put my foot down at low rpm it will accelerate very slowly until the 3000 mark, then take off like the proverbial scalded cat ! iv'e cleaned out the m.a.f. thingy with injector cleaner, but to no avail..............any thoughts, cheers, john. |

Title: Re: misfire on 2.0 16v Post by Eddie on Nov 1st, 2004, 5:31am They poke out the front of the exhaust heat shield. Two stainless steel pipes with rubber pipes going to a unit on the inner wing. All visible from under the hood (bonnet?). Check them for holes or splits. Also part of the EGR system is a mushroom shaped device at the rear/right of the engine, there should be a rubber pipe coming from this, check it hasnt been pulled off. I would seriously consider very careful examination of ALL the wiring associated with the ignition system.Check it for missing and flaking primary insulation. Especially under the top cover, where the coils/spark plugs live. eddie |

Title: Re: misfire on 2.0 16v Post by Eric_R on Nov 1st, 2004, 7:29pm Sprog, The DOHC engines are prone to a misfire caused by the insulation breaking down on the Ignition circuit. This is called the Fuel Cut-off Loom, and is dealt with on http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm Try that first. |
