Title: Giving Headlamps the 'facelift' look
Post by simonmd on Nov 5th, 2004, 1:50am
I much prefer the 'toned down' apperance of the facelift headlamps and thought it wouldn't be too hard to do it myself by painting the silver insert black like the '98 cars have.

Question is, as i'm sure someone must have done this mod already, and how easy is it to get the glass off the front or is it bonded? Any other things to note?

I have done this mod and it is quite easy. To remove the glass, carefully cut around the edge where it is bonded to the unit. Mask off the area not to be painted, using satin black aerosol, build up several layers of paint. Do this slowly, it dries quite quickly. Then demask and reseal the glass using windscreen sealant or similar. Dont cut yourself when cutting the sealant, i used a stanley knife as the blade needs to be very sharp, and after getting some way through i a pplied a little pressure at the joint with a screwdriver while cutting the rest. Hope this helps. john.n ;)
