Title: Heater + Suspension Probs
Post by RogerTheRacer on Nov 10th, 2004, 8:57pm
Hi, I am a new owner of an early 1994 24v Estate Exec trim, I spotted the potential in a scorpio for my desire to tow and carry motorsport equipment for kart racing.

I also own another classic german built car a 1986 Porsche 928 S2.

The 24v estate car I purchased last week has a few gremlins and I guess I need to get someone to look at them, but maybe some of you will have some experience of the faults.

The car has aircon, but it will only blow cold or luke warm air . Mostly on the passenger side front vent, not the drivers side ?

Also the front suspension clunks and knocks.

I work for Demon Tweeks and we have had it on the ramps, where we noticed the front roll bar had moved sideways on its rubber bushes and the r/h side was hitting the chassis under suspension compression.

The mechanics managed to move the roll bar back to where it should be, and it has cleared up most of the knocking, but there is still some clunking going on especially whilst i go over speed bumps at a reasonable 10mph.

Although the car only has 80,000 on the clock the shocks are very soggy and although the ride quality is very good, the handling does wallow and pitch a lot whilst accelerating and braking.

Can the rear ride leveller shocks be replaced for a stiffer conventional shock and uprated spring ? Also what front shocks does anyone reccomend ?

Yes I have used my Porsche daily for 2 years and not many other cars will handle anything like it, but the Porsche does weight more than the Scorpio at 1700kg, and I am not expecting it to come close in the handling stakes but it feels so vague and woolly at the moment I only hope that the shocks are all worn.

Thanks
Roger The racer

Hi Rodger!
I pretty much garantee that clunking is coming from the anti-roll bar conection linkages, there about £46 each, only avaliably from ford, but they will solve the problem!A sinch to fit(they join the anti-roll bar to the front strutt) they will end all the front end noise at all speeds, althought i bet this noise only happens at slow speed over undulating ground!
                 Hope this helps

Hi Darton,
Thanks you're right about the slow speed undulating ground bit.

The car has had a new left hand drop link fitted but still has the original right hand link.

What goes wrong with these drop links?

Surely they are only a metal bar with a 2 spherical rod ends?

Thanks
Roger

Hi Rodger!
Yes they are,but you must replace both! the tolerance of these links is so small it takes an expert to find a problem. If you can move the linkage in any direction with hand power only,it has had it!the problem is the top and /or bottom ball joint in the unit,it only take,s a couple of 1/000 of wear and low, they knock,up and down, and the sound is pretty loud inside the car and very annoying! it does sound like it may be the other one! (you should hear both!!!)
