Hi I have a 1994 2.9 24v Cosworth estate with a heater problem.

The problem is there is no heat coming out of anywhere !

With the Aircon on and the digital settings for both sides on "Hi" and the "Auto" mode it blows cool air out of which ever vent you want ?

Any ideas ?

Matrix ? etc...

try a reset first, then you might need to back flush the system.

Hi, I have tryed the reset, but its no different.

You mentioned "flush the system"

Please explain how and where this is done?

Easiest way is to use a hose, take the pipes off to the heater matrix, in the engine bay, and basicaly flush the system both ways. When the water goes the same way all the time it can block the matrix. Then you can do the same with the block.

daft question is the stat ok, and have you ran low of water, could be an air lock if so, might just be worth bleeding the system first and checking the stat

i had a similar problem last year just as winter came. i think because i put about 3 bottles of radweld into the header tank (not in one go) to stop a leaky rad it blocked the matrix enough to slow the flow of water, i also had no heat so i tried flushing the water system with rad flush which only seemed to make the rad leak again and still no hot air. so i got the rad re-cored. about 6 weeks ago i decided it was time to sort the heater out before it go to cold (i cauldnt go another winter with no heat). so removed the two pipes that come from the matrix and filled them and the matrix with a solution of caustic soda (sodium hydroxide) and left it a for some time whilst i did the service parts on the engine. service done i flushed the matrix through and refitted the pipes and filled the engine with water and started to run the car up, it was some time before i noticed the 2 inches of water in the rear footwells. i think the cleaning fluid i used had eaten through the nine year old matrix as i noticed stream of water pouring out of the bottom of the heater box. so in the end i had to fit a new matrix, steering wheel off, dash out, plenham chamber off, heater box out, vent pipes not a nice job really but it had to be done. took me 6 hours on a saturday afternoon, caused probs with the wife too as she thought it would be a quick job. anyway if you are still awake after reading this then i am happy to say that i have plenty of hot air now and the A/C is all working has it should be. but dont let me scare you, your problem may not necessarily be the same as mine. p

Thanks for all your advice, I am going to try the easiest solution this weekend and flush the system from the header tank and let it run out the bottom hose first, and then see if it makes any difference.

Although I do fear a new matrix could be looming !!

Roger,

I used the following method, which worked perfectly
Disconnect the 2 hoses to the matrix.
Connect 2 garden hoses of approx 1.5m each, so that the
ends can be put in a bucket aside the car.
Cut one of the hoses just above the bucket and put a small
pump (e.g one which can be connected to a drill) between the 2
cut ends.
Fill the bucket up with water and add some material to clean
a coffee machine. (don't use agressive material)
Switch the pump on and let the water circulate for a few hours.
I had it run for approx 6 hours , after which the matrix was clean and functioned as new.
