Title: Remote start alarm?
Post by simonmd on Nov 15th, 2004, 7:26am
I've always fancied one of those remote start alarms and would like to fit one to my Ultima. Especially useful as the frosty mornings are here now!

Question is, would it work on a Scorpio? Surely without the key actually being in the ignition, the PATS would not let the car start?

I dare say the company that supplies and fits them will know how to work around this, but there is legal side to this.  If i'm correct, i do believe it is illegal to leave a running car unattended even if it is locked, but you are still leaving yourself open for it to be stolen, the thieves would only have to break a window climb in and their off, soory don't mean to put you off but a i think you'll have trouble with your insurance company too if you had this fitted.  I know someone who had this feature on their top of the range 7 series BMW which was fitted at the factory, yet he had to pay extra on he's insurance beacuse of it.  So my advice would be to check out the insurance and legalities first. (This is all in my own opinoin of cousre)

Good luck

Yes, I did know about the legalities but am fortunate to live in a very quiet, remote area where this is not realy an issue. Would still be safer than running out in frosty weather and starting it with the key and then going back in the house!
