Title: Thrumming noise Front Wheel Bearings? Post by Geoff_W on Nov 15th, 2004, 6:05pm Over the last couple of days I have noticed a light thrumming noise linked to some slight vibration through the steering wheel. Happens across all speed ranges so fairly sure it is not balancing. I think this is a very early stage. I suspect it may be bearing related, any other thoughts and if it is front bearings is this going to be straightforward or do I need a second mortgage and the Discovery Channel to document it so that I can afford it. Interested to hear other peoples thoughts and ideas on this one. Geoff :-/ |

Title: Re: Thrumming noise Front Wheel Bearings? Post by Eddie on Nov 16th, 2004, 5:22am To check the bearing--Grab the top of the tyre at 10 to 2 position and rock in and out,ie. toawrds and away from engine. Any movement is not desirable! OR, Jack her up and repeat same exercise, but grab tyre top and bottom. Be aware of movement in the steering which can be a bit misleading. If the bearing is shot you WILL feel it. Rotation can sometimes pick up the noise of the bearing also. eddie |
