Title: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by Baz on Nov 16th, 2004, 7:51pm Hello, today while driving home, my cossie lost most of its power while I was trying to accelerate. While the pedal was pressed hard down, the car just didn't rev or really want to move. It felt like there was some slight missing and as though something was holding it back. released the throttle, and everything was fine. It did the same again later tonight. car is S reg 24v with 60k on the clock. Any ideas? Baz |

Title: Re: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by Baz on Nov 16th, 2004, 9:42pm Could be, but it seems to be incredibly inconsistant. It first happened weeks ago when I was going to Birmingham, just let the throttle off and it was OK. Since then have travelled to EuroDisney with no issues and probably driven 2500 miles since the last glitch and now 2 in a day. I will get my friendly mechanic to have a look, but where is the fuel filter on these? Thanks Barry |

Title: Re: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by TonyS on Nov 16th, 2004, 10:14pm Possible it's the traction control system .. check your tyre pressures. Over 30mph the TCS switches to using selective fueling cutout to reduce engine power. |

Title: Re: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by SaveTheNight on Nov 16th, 2004, 10:15pm sorry Baz ..I thought you meant just tonight ... if its electrical and under the circumstances that you describe ..ie: still holding the throttle down even when power has gone ..then you would almost certainly get a backfire on resume ..the fact that you dont would suggest fuel interuption ..try the relay maybe ..the large green one in the battery side box ..on older scorps it would be an immobiliser fault but yours isn't really like that .. hmmm .. loose crank sensor wires < common > .. faulty fuel pump knock sensor in boot ? ..what have you messed with lately ? will that give us a clue ?? servicing stuff ? .. Title: Re: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by Baz on Nov 16th, 2004, 10:23pm Haven't really done anything to the car apart from Sat Nav and multi screen dvd/tv system and these are all plug and play stuff. Certainly haven't been under the bonnet. I will check a few of the suggestions out but it just baffles me as to why it is so intermittant!! Baz |

Title: Re: Power loss but only for a few seconds Post by Eric_R on Nov 16th, 2004, 11:48pm Baz, Have you checked for any OBD codes? A bad/intermittent signal from the CKP can momentarily cause LOS and when restored the engine will resume. Have the DTCs checked. Another candidate would be a catalyst element shifting in the exhaust. This momentarily causes the exhaust flow on one bank to be restricted. You might also notice a wheezing/whistling sound. Have you heard a catalyst rattle or a slight wheezing? A blocked catalyst may force off an EGR pipe so you might find an EGR DTC recorded - but this doesn't always happen. I notice you have stainless exhaust system. If the fitters had to hammer the exhaust system at all it may have broken a cat. HTH |
