Title: In car entertainment
Post by robsa on Nov 24th, 2004, 1:42pm
Has anyone replaced the set up in their Scorpio?  I have an Ultima with the RDS radio/cassette and boot multi-changer and controls on the dash and I took it to the big brighton Halfords and enquired about upgrading and they all laughed at me.  They say its virtually impossible to replace the stereo because it is so complex in the scorpio.

The thing is, when I go faster the stereo gets louder for some odd reason (it's not meant to do this is it?!)

I would dearly love to know if someone has upgraded and if so how?

thanks y'all!

yep the volume is supposed to go up as the speed increases as long as you have AVS turned on in the menu, press menu untill you get to AVS, there is a speed sensor cable comming to the back of the radio and from that the radio automaticly adjusts the volume to conteract road noise by increasing the volume.

AVS can be adjusted to min and max Im not neet the car now but play around with it.

Hi ;D,
Yes, your stereo has an AVC :o (automatic volume control).
Cought me out as well :P!
;DHit the Man/Cd button untill you get AVC on display. Use SEEK to set to "0" ::) if you wish to switch it off.

Anything beyond a MW/LW push button radio is complex to someone working at Halfords. They seem to employ "young Chavs" ...all spotty and brainless (In Warrington anyway!!)

If you want to change the system for any standard plug and play one, you will need a set of changeover leads to convert the ford wiring to ISO standard, a radio aperture reducer, (same as the fiesta and focus and some Mondeos) any good car radio shop or EBay will have them

Fit the reducer, plug the leads in, fix to radio and Bob's your Uncle, a quick changeover.

I personally wouldn't change the installed system too much, but I am old!! but if you did, I would take a trip to a scrappy and see if they have an Executive model in and pinch the trim and boot carpet where the CD changer is installed.

Leave Halfords to the Pensioner wanting a 20k service on his 1980 Fiesta and a picnic blanket to wrap the dog in

Ah, thanks for the info about the AVS!  I will investigate that then.

Thanks all of you for the info.  I shall ponder whether to get an MP3 cd player....

I'm very  pleased  with   the factory  fitted   sound  system   in  my  scorp (  although  the  rear  CD  changer  jumps  a bit  on  rough  roads ).  Also,  I've   been  wondering  what  AVC  was , now I  know.

i have upgraded my system to pioner and it is super fine you can also get a adaptor lead so you can still use the ford fitted stalk to control it from UKAudioShop.com at £56.05p inc vat the lead also fits any iso sterio with  remote option

Why doesn't anyone make head units the same size as our #000 series ones and make them normal looking, i.e, not silver with big 'orrible buttons and silly flashing lights?  >:(

(I don't dislike my 7000)

All this AVC stuff and other is in the hand books for the radios ... well worth reading and if you haven't got one then they are on the main site..... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/2007hbook.htm

Hmm was avc on all models? I have the menu on the radio and it can be adjusted from "off" to "+7" but it seems to do nothing. The volume doesn't change no matter what setting or speed.

I have a 98 Ghia spec Cossie.
