Title: VM 2.5 TD Transplant
Post by Hellbilly on Nov 24th, 2004, 8:35pm
Not so much a problem as an idea...

I have a Cortina Mk3 that I would like to fit a turbo derv into, complete with 5 speed box.

The obvious choice would be the pre-94 Granny 2.5TD; but that would be way to easy, wouldn't it?

Basically, I'd like to know wether the VM 2.5TD (94-97) can be run out of it's donor car.

How 'electronic' is the fuel pump? Is it just a mechanical unit with solenoid controlled extras or fully ECU controlled? Is the lift pump integral to the injection pump, or seperate?

What would I require from a donor car to do the job? I'm assuming just the engine, loom and ECU but is this the case?

I'm competant and experienced in engine transplants but haven't handled a modern ECU diesel yet!
Any mechanical fabrication is no problem as I do that for a living, it's the control side of the engine I'm concerned about.

Also, does the VM25 use the MT75 box?

Any advice is welcome, even if it's to say what a bad idea this is!

Thanks

Doesn't anyone here know anything about the VM diesel units?

Thanks for your input, but perhaps you could quantify 'better' for me, please?

Do you mean easier to install, or is the VM unit a bad choice?
