Title: ABS and Traction systems
Post by cookie_boy2000 on Nov 27th, 2004, 12:28am
Hi all. On the advice of my brother in law, I put my traction control on, but noticed that after 10 minutes or so the ABS and traction lights were on. I tried to turn the traction off but it wouldn't have it. When I got in the car today I made sure traction was off and neither of the lights cam on. Seeing as how winter is upon us I will more than likely need the traction control. Does this mean there's a fault somewhere or is it nothing to worry about?

Yes, TC is on all the time unless you switch it off.

Pressing the button on the centre console to switch it off should cause the TC light on the dash to illuminate to warn you that it's off.

Otherwise (apart from self-tests when you put the ignition on) neither light should appear - they will each flicker when TC or ABS is operating but apart from that you shouldn't see them.

ABS/TC lights do come on if there's a fault (TC needs ABS so if there's a problem with ABS then it usually disables TC too). Have a look at the ABS pages on the main site - there's plenty of info there and stuff about fault-finding too AFAIR.

Cheers,
Dave
