Title: Cosworth 24V Problem 1 - stalling
Post by davem on Nov 27th, 2004, 12:57pm
The car keeps stalling...but only with warm engine..only at idle...in traffic etc. It usually takes about 30 to 40mins of driving for this fault to occur...and then when in traffic..idling or at traffic lights etc, it will just cut out. Re-starts OK...and often pulls away with a heavy misfire (splutter) and then its fine until the next set of red traffic lights...Can stall upto 10 or 15 times after that...Otherwise, when engine is cold ..the idle is perfectly stable and even when warm..also stable until it just cuts out. Any ideas?

Possibly an air leak in the vacuum pipes - check the T piece between the heads and under the throttle housing as they always break. Have you checked the emissions at idle? An MOT station can tell you whether you have an air leak or not.

Dave,
The stalling when warm and not when cold indicates that the close-loop fuelling has a problem - if cold running is ok then it points to the fuel monitor.

We need to check out the DTCs and monitor the HO2S sensors and fuel trims to see what is happening - experience shows that this might be caused by failed hego sensors.

Did you PM me? I was servicing my car yesterday and didn't pick up the messages. We need to meet and scan your OBD.  ;)
