Title: Airbag light
Post by Robby on Nov 29th, 2004, 4:25pm
My airbag light started coming on intermittently yesterday.  I'm pretty sure its the connection into the drivers airbag in the steering wheel, because at a standstill the light goes out when I push the wheel all the way in (with the adjuster unlocked) and it comes on if I pull it all the way out.

I unstand I need to disconnect the battery to take the bag off, push the connector in properly, and put it back together.  Do I need to take any precautions to stop the alarm going off when I disconnect the battery?

Hi Robby.
I changed my steering wheel at the weekend so this is still pretty fresh in my mind.
Yes, you need to disconnect your battery and leave it about half an hour (or a bit more) before touching anything.
The airbag is attached by 2 Torx screws from the back of the wheel. When these are undone, your airbag can be pulled out towards you. At this stage (on mine) the wire for the airbag pretty much unplugged itself - it was quite loose. So it is quite possible that yours is only just making contact.
If you like, I could post a photo of it, but it would have to be tomorrow I'm afraid.

Don't worry about the photo, I've had a look, seems easy enough.

Does the alarm go off when you disconnect the battery?

Sorry. Forgot about that bit.  No, the alarm wil be fine. But obviously, remember you'll need to re-enter the code for the radio.
