I've just realised that the drivers side of the heated windscreen doesn't seem to work, whilst the passenger side is working perfectly. I checked both fuses,in the auxiliary fuse box, as indicated in the manual, but they are both intact. I double checked to make certain that I checked the correct fuses. I also took out the relay, and looked for obvious signs of corrosion, or damage but it looked perfect. Does anyone know how to test the relay, to find out if it is faulty ? If it isn't the relay, does anyone have any ideas where I can go from there ?

By the way, it's a 2.9 24V cossie, M Reg.

It's the screen Adrian unfortunately .. they are independantly wired each side and the drivers side is the most common to fail first ..screens are approx £190 if you search around a bit ..regards ....STN

Also worth checking the wiring. If you open the bonnet and look at the bottom corner of the screen, there are two wires for it. Check the connection of the one with the connector on it and also, if you have one, check that there is voltage accross them. Don't forget that you'll need the engine running to make it live. The connector for the 2nd wire is a pig as it's buried under the trim half way up the windscreen pillar.

I have the same problem just the other way round... drivers side fine passenger side ..hmm.. A mate of mine (auto lecky) found a small chip in the passenger side of the screen which broke the circuit... it's a sort of live with it problem till the screen gets totalled by "malicious" damage ;)

Hmmm .. yeah i had the same problem in my scorpio ... the drivers side windscreen part wouldn't clear ... so i threw a stone at the screen with a small pebble ... and cracked it :o then i phoned up autoglass and got the windscreen changed through insurance ... cost me just £50 excess ... told them i was behind a builders lorry on the motorway and got hit by a stonechip :P Brand new windcreen now all working fine no problems :-X

I've just fixed the windscreen problem, without trashing the screen!!
The fault lay in the wire connection to the screen, itself. I checked the two wires in the bottom corner of the screen, under the bonnet ( as advised by one of the members on the forum ), and whilst wiggling the wire with the connecter on it, the wire started to come loose, I wiggled a bit more and it came away from the screen. This wire is only about 3 inches long, and it has another spade type connector (male) on it which slots into a female connector fitted to a small rubber pad on the underside of the screen. You can't see the female connector, you have to stick your finger under the rubber pad, and feel for it. After fiddling to slot this wire back into place, I checked with a multimeter, and there was a healthy voltage passing through.

All sorted... Thanks for the advice, on the wires.

I suspect that there will be a lot of fingers rummaging around under Scorpion screens in the next few days - including mine :)

the fault in the wire simon refers to is well documented on the site including pics .. fortunately for Adrian and unfortunately for most it only turns out to be the fault about once or twice in every ten or so .. but it's that well documented that I can't FIND IT !! arghhhhhhhhhh !!! ... < the pics were quite good > ...... STN

There is tow or three wires in the centre of my screen not working, I think is due to a tiny tiny stone chip in the middle, I will live with it for another while, with my luck I would throw a stone at it and it wouldn't crack and leave a big obvious mark on the screen, and be caught red handed.

I did once have a busted windscreen on the Mondeo and the insurance company wouldnt pay up, so I claimed it from my Mothers Insurracne and it was a Nissan Primera, I knew the guy! ;D

If anyone has a broken wire on the screen caused by a stonechip, there is a special product called ' Electrically conductive silver paint', which you can purchase from Maplins electronic stores for approx £5.99. This contains real silver, and can be used on windscreens, and rear windscreen demisters etc. The only question is whether or not the paint can reach the wires in your screen, this would depend on the chip in the screen, or course.

At only £5.99, it's always worth a try.

I also have several wires not heating any more, but no stone chips. Its unfortunate that these screen heaters give up after a few years. My screen was only replaced 5 years ago

Its Ok to use Electrically conductive silver paint on rear windows but not the front windscreen as the wire is embeded in the screen its self, in order to work you have to actually make contact with the wire, :-/ the rear heater wire is exposed so it will work there.

You're lucky John. Mine's the other way around. I've only got 2 or 3 on the driver's side that do work. Passenger side is perfect.

Totally with you on the suffering with it thing. I just know I'd get caught doing the dodgy deed :'(
