Hello!

It’s winter in Russia now, but not very cold! While at idle with CC on the trip comp of my 2.016v Scorp is switching from 1,2l/hour to 1,0 l/hour. When I turn CC off after good engine warming on run it’s switching (not always) from 1,0 l/hour to 0,8 l/hour. But it takes much time to achieve it. Fuel consumption is very heavy (up to 18 l/100 km), but performance is good. CAT – removed, IAT, IAC –replaced, front and rear HO2S replaced, wiring seems to be OK, MAF -cleaned! Any suggestions what I should find! Help needed!

I know I should know better but so we can get a sense of how bad your mpg problem is, could you change over your drive computer to imperial the next time you take it for a run and post the figures in miles per gallon.

My 2.0 16v manual has a current tank average of 30.4mpg based on a 110 mile run out to Hull and back on the motorway. Cruise control each way avg 70mph.

Other thing, when you say its not cold yet what sorts of temperature are we talking about.

just for reference, my 2.0, after 3000 miles 8)mixed driving, shows 24.5 ::) mpg av.
50% work :( (rush hour), 50% pleasure ;D.

Hi,

Quick calculating 24.5mpg means 9.8L/100km. And that makes sence in my experiment.
18L/100km is something like less than 14mpg. And that´s too mutch even in -20C temperatures. (of cource wen you startup in frosen, the oils have more friction and before they warm up the consuption will be higher)
I am driving a 2.9/24v in Finland and do not reach this high. (we have the same f***g winter :( )

Hmm.. Even the idle consuption is near where it should be. It could be that one or some of fuel injectors are not closing well. HO2S can see it but can´t do anything for it.
I would try to use some incector cleaner next couple of times you fill up your tank.

There can be some other reasons as well. Powertrain or wheel bearing failure, even brake piston can get stuck. Drive 100km/h and set the gear to neutral. If you feel heavy slowdown in speed, he problem is not in the engine.

Thanks for replies!

I've moved a bit IAT and TPS plugs and it has miraclously cured low MPG!!! I'm afraid it's interminent fault and has something to do with the wiring! It's worth to order an OBD lead though it's difficult from Moscow!!

Good to hear you have fixed it.

So how many kilometers are you getting to a tank now?

As an additional thought, MMonster's idea of injector cleaner in the tank is a good one for 2.0 litres as they are amongst the oldest Scorps and clean injectors make for better metering, starting, idleing and economy. I use a Redex single shot bottle to a tank from time to time.

Hello!

It's warm now in Moscow - +4 C! Not dad, but I'm afraid when cold the fault will return! Now the consumption is 12,3 km/l totally urban driving!!!

Sounds like a new engine wiring loom is needed,or a lot of insulating tape.
Pain in the butt on 2L engines.

Seems like you have found the problem. Check the connectors and wiring near the connectors very carefully. You can add some water resistant grease inside plugs or just use CRC 5-56 or WD40. Check the sealing o-rings too that they are ok and clean.

Keep going, othervise you will freeze. ( same +4C in Helsinki :D )
