Title: loss of all electrics
Post by mxadana on Dec 13th, 2004, 1:02pm
Scorpio Ultima 2.0 16v ,  approximately 180,000 miles.

Every 2-3 months or so the engine dies on me and I find I have a complete loss of all electrics.  No ignition, no radio, no hazard lights.....nothing!!  After about 3-4 minutes the electrics reappear,  the car restarts and everything returns to normal.
The battery,  all connections to the battery, and the battery earth all appear to be OK.

Any suggestions.

Hi Terry there has been many posts with with more or less the same symptons and in most cases it is the battery which is at fault so before you start on anything else have the battery checked out and good luck btw keep us informed of the outcome this is useful for further posts on this matter.

Could also be a total short reacurring.  Boring and time consuming i know but check the wiring carefully as best as you can. :)john.n

Thanks for your suggestions.

I can now replicate the problem by moving the battery lead into the auxillary fuse box.  There is obviously a poor connection somewhere within the box and ..........given the circuits protected by this box..........it would certainly explain my complete loss of electrics when the fault occurs.

Earlier this year a fuse box was replaced  due to ingress of damp ( part number F7056813 ).  As I cannot remember which one was replaced can anyone tell me if this part number refers to the auxillary or main fuse box.

It will help me determine if this is a new problem or simply the result of sloppy work by the garage in fixing the original problems.

Thanks.

i would suggest that you remove and strip down the aux box its a fairly easy and straight forward job ,it can be done in a cuople of hours without rushing ,just out of intrest ,do you live or did you used to live in Hay-On -Wye ,as i used to know a terry salter there
