Title: Was broken cam chain now - electrical
Post by mjnewham on Dec 28th, 2004, 4:51pm
Brief history of 95 reg 24v:

Cam chain broke, went to various garages for this to be identified (Dee's of Croydon said they couldn't look at the problem until the whole exchaust system was replaced).

A friend of mine (engineer) decided to help out; and we replaced:

2x Cam chains (all associated gears)
3x Exaust valves, and collars (damaged by chain breaking)
Loads of gaskets (to many to mention)
2x Belts

... etc and it goes one..

We got it all back together, and started it up (finally), only ot have an intermittent problem.. further investigation showed that the loom, from the injectors, back was in a very bad state - the insulation had hardened over the years and lots of wires where touching, so rather than repairing the old loom I decided to get a new one, after 2 weeks it arrived.

It took 2 days to get the old loom out, and a further day to get the new one in -- under the gearbox proved a particular problem. We finally got it back in and ready to go.

The problem.
No spark! all the cables and connectors look ok, the starter motor turns the engine over - but nothing.

It's been such a long time, but I need to check that the immobiliser isn't causing problems.

The key/fob opens/closes the doors ok. When locked the RED light on the top of the dash flashes ok - showing the alarm is ok?

Unlocking the doors, and the light goes out. BUT! when I try and start the car the RED light flashes really fast (continuously) - is this a problem or is this normal when trying to start the car (I cannot remember)..

Sadly I do not have the red master key mentioned in the drivers manual used for resetting the immobiser..

HELP!!!!!

Martin.

Ok, quick update:

Found the page where it details the flashing codes for the RED LED on the top of the dash..

After flashing fast for about 1 minute, it reverts to a 1:6 flash cycle with means..

"Faulty link between PATS module and EECV".

Quick question.. the connection between the PATS & EECV .. is that soley within the cabin or does it go through any of the loom in the engine bay (and through the two large square connectors on the l/h side of the engine??)

Martin.

I got the loom from Ford (£360) - a friend of mine but it in, not easy at all.

I'll check the fuses, thanks.. Martin.

Just checked the #16 & #17 fuses, but they are both Ok..

Does anyone know where on the car the EECV is? I think the PATS is behind the glove box - but I can't find anywhere that tells me where the EECV is physically..

thanks, Martin.

this is just a though but could it be the immobiser needs resetting, because all the keys are coded and you knocked out the code changing the loom
please note this is just a though and i'm not 100% sure

Yeah, I read about resetting the immobliser - but I don't have the "Red" master key. I only have a single black key with a red marker.
