Title: please help about main wire loom
Post by torquemaster on Dec 30th, 2004, 4:46pm
Hi

I own a Scorpio 2.3 16V 1997.I have had problems with the radiator fan which was always on even when the ignition was off. The Ford main garage here in ( near Rome) replaced me the A/C pressure switch  and Engine temperaure sensor cost me 250,00 pounds.
The problem appeared again causing me the flat battery.
I went to the same Ford garage and finally they discovered that a piece of about 20 inches of the main wire loom coming from the ECU going in to engine managment is totally damaged. They suggested me to buy a complete new wire loom  KIT at the price of 500,00 pounds.
I think this is an exaggerating price.
What you suggest me to repair damaged loom or to go ahead with the new KIT Loom.
Do you think I can ask Ford garage to have the repairing on guarantee as the made spent 250,00 pound previously without solving the problem?

Thanks for yr answer
Max

God,  NOT another FORD Main Dealer not satisfied customer.
I say this.
The two first jobs they did, you are entitle to a refund if they where not needed. The fact that you have now got new parts, well that's their tough luck.
But the trouble is they might just bump up the loom price to compensate for their wrongly done work.
Much lika a double glazing person will come into your house and give you a vast price hoping to get away with it and when you say no, he will start to lower it a bit at a time, trying to pretend you got a bargain.
The other trouble is, if you get tough with them they might just turn around and tell you they will not do business with you again, (they did that to me) but at least it cost them many thousands of pounds.
Wiring loom, £500 supply and fitting. (is there vat on top as well) Well the lights where out on my auto-gear selector panel. I needed a loom on that to put this right, cost at a Ford Main dealer £160 plus vat. (that included fitting).
Others on this site might know if your needed wiring loom is more exspensive than mine.
As far as guarantee's are concerned, you don't need those. The law is very clear.
Goods AND Services MUST be of merchantable quality and fit for the purpose that they are intended for.
Again I had that a very long time ago with a central heating boiler repair chap.
Did one thing at a cost of £60, no good. Then did something else at cost of £180, no good.
Then did a third thing that set light to the inside of my boiler, burnt out all the wiring inside a write off.
So I made him claim off his insurance and got someone else to supply and fit a brand new boiler.
The trouble is they get nasty, which is not very pleasant, so be prepared for them to get nasty with you and tell you not to bother them again.
I had a case also at my Ford Main Dealer, that My N/S rear hub bearing was starting to go, Starting to make a rattle rotaing sound.
They first fitted  both inner and outer drive shaft bearings, because they throught it was that. but them had to admit that it was indeed the hub bearing.
Told me at first, that they could not refund because I now had new parts. But I would not back down, in the end they had to refund me the cost of their un-necessary work.
First they offered just the labour refund but them in the end had to refund the parts as well.
You could phone other Ford Dealers, to ask them their price now that you know just what needs doing.
