Title: Misfire and starting problems
Post by ian on Dec 31st, 2004, 12:50pm
I drive a 1995 2.0 16v Exec.

The past 3 weeks it's started misfiring and has stalled at lights a few times. Each time I have had trouble re-starting it, once taking about 10 minutes of trying before the engine fired. I've also had the same problem when the car has been parked for short periods, but oddly never when it has been left for a long time. It always starts first time with a cold engine but doesn't seem to like warm starts.

Any ideas?

Ian

The ".0 and 2.3 suffered from feul cut off loom damage and needs replaced in a lot of Scorpios,

Its the wire's leading to the two coil packs between the camshafts under the plate/cover. I replaced mine due to missfiring I spliced my own wire in but you can buy if from fords. assuming that this is your problem, it is easy enough to investigate.

There are detailed deirections on the main site.

Me as well, my 2.0 litre went the same way, as John says have a look under the cover and I suspect that you will find worn wiring.

It may not even be the loom, in my case it was the front ignition lead, about £8.00 from Ford fixed it.

You may need to check the plugs as well, the corresponding plug was also shot.

Good luck

Geoff

could also be a faulty fuel pressure regulator, but wiring does chaffe where it runs into the cover plate
and its close enough to rub on the bulkhead

Update: the car died totally today and refuses to start at all  :'(

Green Flag guy thinks the problem is the injectors are not receiving a signal from the engine, so either an ECU or wiring fault. 'spose I'll find out when the garage opens on Tuesday.
