Title: Wierd problem with my 2.3 ultima..
Post by Mick999 on Dec 31st, 2004, 5:00pm
Today I gave the old girl a quick rinse off, not uncommon. About 30 minutes later the alarm (standard OE) sounded. It hasn't EVER gone off before. So I attempt to turn it off with the fob without success. I endup opening the door with the key, the indicators flashed for a few seconds longer then went out. Now i can't open the car with the fob at all and the inerior lights/rear&front heated screens don't work! I have checked the fuses and the corresponding ones are fine. When I turn on the ignition the alarm light comes on for about 3 secs which according to the manual indicates the systems fine...it isn't. The deadloack feature dosen't work either.

Any ideas? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds as though things in the fuse box area have got a bit damp... could try drying out the fuse box with the old hairdrier or try the magic WD 40 if that doesn't work... Ther are lots of post on the board about fuse boxes and damp etc worth having a read through see if any apply to your problem.. But first impression is wet fuse box...

K..thx for the reply. It did seem dry earlier but you never know i suppose. I'll have a good look in the morning. I'll have to sneak the old dears hairdryer outside!

Is the battery cover fitted? If not then water will get into the fuse box.

I think we all assume these days that everyone does have the cover on the battery/fusebox, but it may not be the case.   As Steve says, get one on it if you haven't already.

But I think some still have trouble even though they have the cover on.   I really think its worth a regular check & clean down the awkward spaces beside the fuseboxes.

Its a bit odd maybe, but I keep an old pair of chopsticks specifically for getting in down there.  Great for picking out bits of leaves, etc.  I also use the hoover with the pointy tool on the end to suck the last bits up.  ;D

Yeah i have the battery cover fitted. The strange thing is that i just went out in the car and all the bits that weren't working suddenly are! :o

I'll still have to have a good look at it in the morning though...and invest in some chop sticks!

Thanks for your help.

Happy new year to y'all
