2.3 Ghia (Auto). Whist driving this morning the gear box stopped responding to my pedal movment, I had to shift the box into 2nd and then back into drive a few times before the box started to respond but, I then noticed the Over Drive Off light started to flash and then the speedo stopped working. I stopped and turned the engine off and then on after a few min's but still no joy.
Since the fault i have drove 45miles and used three times that in fuel.
This has happeded once before and corected its self the same day about 2 moonths ago.
please help!!!

Sounds like your VSS has died :(

Your car dosn't know it's moving :o

vehicle speed sensor???? someone will have the riht answer any minute now ;)

Have you checked the oil level?

Doessound like the VSS the speed sensor on the nearside of the gear box but worth checking the wiorinf that goes to it first for breaks etc and also worth cleaning the MAF all the instructions are on the main site, and the associated information http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cleanmaf.htm

The VSS is an easy DIY job if you have a good set of ramps as it bolts onto the side of the gear box and the loom plugs into it... it is possible to do without removiing all the heat shielding.....

i had the same thing hapen to me last month and it was the vss it was 56.00 inc vat from ford check the gear inside to they are nylon as mine was worn they are not much to relace and is easy to do at the same time a local guy fitted mine for me as it was easyer for him on a ramp and chargred £108.00 all in with parts and vat ;D ;D

Hi guys, i'am having similar problems with my 24v, O\D light itermit flashing ,bad gear selec,&sometimes power steering goes heavy , VSS changed, MAF cleaned, end of problem, i driven about 50mls today without problems, but tonight while car was ticking over for about 10 min it started doing it again. by the way i have a oil leak on the sump gasket awaiting repair, is it possible some oil is getting on to something & causing these problems, Help. john c.
