Title: front wheel bearing?
Post by OHC on Jan 11th, 2005, 9:50am
Hello!

after long park I hear grinding noise from the left front wheel! It passes away after short drive! Is it front brake pads! Or wheel bearing? What are the symptoms of dying wheel bearing?

Thanks in adv
OHC

this would be your breakpads, slight rust gathers on the disc giving you the grinding effect that disapears after a short while, wheel bearing noise does not disapear is continues through out the whole jorney, a constant hum.

Going round corners may give an indication of  wheel bearing trouble.

If the noise  disappears  when turning left  but gets worse when turning right , you could have trouble with the left hand ( passenger side )  Wheel bearing.

i always found the best way to test for wheel bearing noise is to jack up the wheel in question then roto the wheel by hand. you can detect noises because you have got you ear right up to the wheel and no road noise.
i had drive shaft bearing noise in the past that happens when you go round a corner then as you staighten out the noise disapears. where as wheel bearing happens going straight but thats not fault prove because the noise can go and come all the time. that's why i like to jack up.
